By Denis Campbell
Matt, Tom and Oreo (not their real names and as far as you will get) are data gathering wonks that have been anonymously producing the best political blog of the last 18-months. Want to know who is getting what cabinet position? Need a department scorecard? They have it and it can all be [...]

“Senator Clinton, You’re No Margaret Thatcher”

(Reprise article)
Sen. Lloyd Bentsen eviscerated GOP VP rival Dan Quayle with this debate remark stating “he was no Jack Kennedy.” Four years ago I cast a vote AGAINST George H. W. Bush’s son rather than FOR John Kerry. I intend to vote FOR a candidate this year.
You are making it very difficult.

I’ll Go Away, No… Wait A Minute

I felt today a cross between Bobby, the unmarried suffering star of the 70’s hit musical Company and country singer Lorrie Morgan, who sang the 1998 country music hit ‘Go Away.’ The “I’m conceding, no I’m not” antics of the Clinton campaign today have been tragic to follow. Bobby struggled though George Furth’s 11 scatological, 1-act plays set [...]

The Winner? John McCain!

2. 4 million Pennsylvania voters spoke last night besting 2004’s anemic 800,000 votes cast (and that contest was already decided). No matter how you slice the numbers three times as many voters turned out, more than 150,000 of them newly registered. Both candidates won their core constituencies and

An Exhausting 7-Week Marathon

Posted on 22 April 2008 by Denis Campbell | Comments (0) | Tags: clinton, delegates, democrats, obama, pensylvania primary, super delegates

Fitting that the day after the Boston Marathon, 20 grueling miles to the top of Heartbreak Hill and then 6 long downhill miles, the Democratic candidates are near the line for the latest head-to-head battle in Pennsylvania.

69 to -2

That’s the number of Super Delegates since February 5th that have declared for Sen. Obama vs. Sen. Clinton in the Democratic primary races. Margaret Campbell (no relation), a state legislator from Montana added yesterday to this growing group and trend.

Can I Have Some Ketchup with that Candidate Please?

I feel like I’m watching one of those retro cartoons where the two characters are being slowly nibbled away from the ground up until the only thing left will be two talking heads and one of them disappears.
Yes, it is the most exciting and dramatic campaign in the history of modern US politics. Every Tuesday [...]

Time for “Silly Season” in Earnest

Posted on 16 March 2008 by Denis Campbell | Comments (0) | Tags: clinton, McCain, obama, super delegates, US politics, US Presidential Election

It’s already beginning…
“I have heard that Obama has said publicly, that he does not salute the American flag and will not. The other rumor is that he was said to have admitted that if elected, he will not use the bible, but the Koran for his inauguration.”
“Did you hear that Hillary Clinton was implicated in [...]

10-0

As a gutted New England Patriots fan superstitious about win streaks, this one by Senator Barack Obama over Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party primaries to determine the nominee for the November general election is impressive by any standard.Pressure builds daily on the 800+ party elder/insider superdelegates (28 January column in this blog) to [...]

About The UKProgressive

UK Progressive E-Magazine began during the 2008 US Presidential Campaign and was created to consolidate and replace two blogs created in 2006 called “Outside the Boundaries,” a political blog and “Fire the Guru!” an expose blog of charlatans in the Mind Body Spirit business. It was briefly called The Vadimus Post. That name came from the Latin 'Quo Vadimus' or 'Where Are We Headed?'

When looking for pithy Latin URL names, I’d watched a moving episode of the same name (different tense, Quo Vadis) from Sports Night, an early series created by The West Wing’s Aaron Sorkin. It was the last episode and focused on the sale of the network to an unknown billionaire who asked the question every day of those who worked closest to him. He wanted to know the answer and… Do We Know Why? His rationale: we spend so much time on things urgent, we miss the important and do we ask ourselves (and others) why we are heading in a particular direction?

Well that is what we ask in these Op-Ed pieces, articles, live feeds, video segments and contributions from friends and affiliates. We are blessed to be able to dialogue with you and our aim is to provide independent, critical insight into the issues of the day. UK Progressive is published daily in Monknash, South Wales. Its founder, An American in Wales, is US journalist Denis Campbell who has been based in The Netherlands and the UK the last 11-years.

The opinions expressed are those of each contributor and do not represent the opinion of Denis Campbell (unless expressly authored by him), our advertisers, any related companies and/or their affiliates. UK Progressive is a free, continuously improving news distribution service (because none of us could live with ourselves or face our mothers if every edition did not represent our very best effort). A lot of work goes daily into producing this true labour of love.

While most of us have other day jobs to eat, we’d love to get to the point where we can monetize this so it covers all of our expenses, allows us to pay our contributors for their fine work and helps us to continue to expand and grow. While not like PBS or other media groups shilling for logo umbrellas every ten minutes, we find it embarrassing to even have to ask… and we could use your help.

If you like what you see here and would like to help us bring it to you by making a donation to support future developments, well, we’d really appreciate it. Our PayPal account is named after a lovely canal side café in Lochem, The Netherlands which our office overlooked years ago.

We promise a team cheer and ‘happy dance’ in your name in advance. Thanks.
