Read Your Google, Your Bible and Your Drudge!

Are we the crazy ones? In Papa Bush’s alternative universe, “43 will come home with his head high knowing he ran a clean operation and kept this country strong and free…”  Sunday while talking to Chris Wallace of ABC News (a stunning look at the affects of nepotism in both politics and on TV as Chris is the son of CBS 60 Minutes iconic reporter Mike Wallace), Bush 41 replied when asked if there were any things for which he could be fairly criticised?… “No. You can go back to your, what do you call it… Your Google, and you figure all that out.”

Papa Bush, now an age peer of convicted felon, former six-term Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, who once notably said “the Internet is just a series of tubes,” cemented his legacy in the grumpy old men’s denial is a river in Egypt club (they do have very cool jackets) by insisting his son’s legacy will be just fine.

A commenter here on UK Progressive about the Inauguration article yesterday posted a screed against Obama, Rev. Wright, abortion, gay marriage and closes by saying: “Your support make you as guilty before God as he is.” Wow, reminds me of the guy walking with a sign board: “Jesus is coming, everyone look busy.” I’m headed for eternal damnation for following a political candidate? And then he offers a prayer for me to recite daily beginning with the words: “Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and am headed to eternal hell because of my sins.” Wow so much for absolution for that hamburger eaten on a Friday, I’m screwed no matter what I do? No room for doubt or questioning?

And yet that pales in consideration to the latest Matt Drudge Report fantasy. He posted the ultra-conservative Washington Times on Twitter this morning saying the recent dip in gas prices means Bush’s legacy is one where the price actually went down during his 8 years as President by 9% (adjusted for inflation) slamming the bumper sticker: When Bush took Office Gas Was $1.46 a Gallon (now $1.33 for the ‘present value of money’ fans ignoring the $1.59 actual price average). Republicans now say Democrats should issue a mea culpa to Bush as we are saving $1 billion dollars a day in gas prices since July and that will take us out of the recession.

Are we the crazy ones? I mean there is SPIN and then there is delusional fantasy.

A 19% approval rating and ¾ of the country (probably more of the world) saying they won’t miss him and wishing Obama was in power now? Expecting reasonable people to accept the desperate attempt to re-write his legacy on a world tour ending with a ‘victory’ stop in Iraq interrupted by the equally iconic shoe throwing episode? What happened to the city and people who would “greet the US as liberators” now sick of being occupied by US troops?

However they SPIN it, their universe never sees a problem of their own making, if indeed they are capable of seeing a problem at all. When Condi Rice goes on the Sunday morning shows and talks with an absurdly straight face about how much good in the world this President has done, she really believes it. Well, like the woman in When Harry Met Sally reacting to Meg Ryan’s fake orgasm at the restaurant table with Billy Crystal… “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Meanwhile, I’m going back to ‘Your Google’ to check up on the great job 43 did as soon as I can get a working router.

About The UKProgressive

UK Progressive began during the 2008 US Presidential Campaign. It replaced two blogs: "Outside the Boundaries" (dedicated to US/UK Politics and Business) and "Fire the Guru!" an expose of charlatans in the Mind Body Spirit business. It was briefly known as The Vadimus Post from the Latin 'Quo Vadimus' or 'Where Are We Headed?'

We publish from a 19th century hilltop farmhouse in Monknash on the South Wales Glamorgan Heritage Coast. US-journalist Denis Campbell, based in The Netherlands and UK for 12-years is the publisher/editor. You can follow his live news feed on Facebook.com (Denis Campbell) and Twitter @UKProgressive.

UK Progressive is a free service. I cringe every time I hear a pbs, truthout or npr never-ending appeal for money. They make much more than we do. We're not your mother, we'll skip the guilt trip. If you like what you see here and would like to help us bring it to you by making a donation to support future developments, we'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
