Part Three – GOP Election Stealing and a Fundamental Integrity Void

This is The Monday Line
by Denis G. Campbell

Integrity matters in elections and life. Yesterday, the 2nd referee did not show so I had to referee a Men’s Division 1 game solo. It was hugely competitive with Team B coming back from a 26-point deficit in the second half to win 95-94. Team A’s reaction, “Team B paid me off as the ref.”

Aside from a thrice weekly exercise regimen away from this keyboard, I earn £24 (about $38), which includes .25p per mile plus £12.50 for the game itself. This was the third close and exciting game this week and I was on the court. As an official and a journalist, my integrity is not for sale for ANY amount. I called the game as I saw it and loved the back and forth nature of the 4th quarter.

I love my work. Even with the attacks? Basketball refereeing and writing/punditry are as good as it gets!

Two meticulously researched election theft articles appeared on this website Thursday and Friday. The website has been under a constant DDOS attack since midnight Friday. DDOS stands for Distributed Denial of Service (what used to be just a DOS attack from one computer, now has zombie machines across the Web sending 2-5,000 requests to this website, per minute). There is but one purpose, to jam the system so badly that those wanting to read these articles cannot access the website. We’ve weathered the worst of the storm which one can assume is either Government, Republican individual or party sponsored. The three phone calls with no one there Friday were more than a bit spooky.

But what kind of integrity is there in those who seek only to harm the disbursement of a message? What kind of integrity is there if your desire to shut down a dissenting message is so strong, you resort to criminal mischief? What kind of integrity causes the nominee of their party to repeat lie after lie about Jeep moving all automotive jobs from Ohio to China as fact, when thoroughly disproven?

We know the answer to all three. None, there is no integrity.

I then compare and contrast that with the work of Michael Duniho, Francois Choquette and James Jones. In the two articles we urged readers to try this exercise for themselves. A half dozen folks took the time to apply and send their spreadsheet formulas. All got a similar result (some after further explanation and re-running data).

Those that did not sent their sheets here and said, ‘something did not work.’ I would forward them to the very busy analysts who would work on them, sending parameters back and forth. Narrow the focus, find mistakes and fix them.

All weekend long while you focused on College football and NFL, these guys worked their formulas and spread sheets to get the numbers right. As questions and comments came into us here, we passed them along and they would reply directly with answers. And I was copied on the entire e-mail string as dozens of messages went back and forth. And all I could think of was how lucky the voters of the USA were to have men like this tackling this issue to ensure fairness and transparency with your cast ballot.

I have had everything from Stanford mathematicians to members of the group Anonymous reach out with queries for more information because they want to understand vs issuing a knee-jerk condemnation.

When a small group of thoughtful, committed people come together, to paraphrase Margaret Mead, they can and indeed are what changes the world. It has been an awe-inspiring weekend.

Integrity matters. These men show it every day and in every way.

It’s easy to label that which we do not or choose not to understand as a conspiracy theory. These mathematicians and scientist who, like a dog with a bone, will not let it go until there are answers to their questions.

Duniho, Choquette and Jones are the embodiment of the wishes of Franklin, Hancock and Washington, framers of the Constitution who wanted Democracy’s votes to mean something.

They and their work should be supported by all sides in this election, not the subject of DDOS attacks. Then the GOP has behaved shamefully and free of integrity throughout this entire campaign! No lie has been too big or small to base an attack on.

No wonder Mitt Romney is referred to as the Lyin’ King. He’s told 891 lies on the campaign trail since January. And that’s important. It is a demonstration of a complete lack of integrity.

For shame.
