Osama Bin Laden Killed – War on Terror Over?

Osama Bin Laden was killed by US Special Forces early Monday morning GMT, triggering a massive spontaneous celebration outside the White House. He was not tracked down getting regular dialysis treatments in a dusty cave
in Afghanistan and communicating via bush telegraph. Rather he lived in a multimillion-dollar compound with
12-foot-high walls, built in the heart of a bustling neighbourhood of Abbottabad – a famously pleasant city not far from the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

Pakistani television showed the compound in flames after the attack. One of the targeted ‘men’ is reported to have used a woman as a human shield, and they were both killed. After DNA confirmation and photo evidence was gathered, Bin Laden was, we understand, buried at sea.

President Obama addressed the world from the East Room of the White House shortly thereafter.

Even FOX News was forced to play nice but pointedly left out ‘President Obama’ in their headline. One can imagine the editorial discussion over that one: “Yes, we have to say ‘President Obama’ in the first paragraph but NOWHERE ELSE unless a direct quote from someone!” Even then they could not resist a demeaning headline dig: “President George W Bush Congratulates Obama on Bin Laden Killing.”

So skewed is news in the USA that, even in celebration, FOX will do anything it can to beatify (move over John Paul II) the former leader and demean the current one.

Another pretty good weekend for the White House… Let’s see birther Donald Trump ‘trump’ this headline.
