One of Our Own Needs Our Help

This week we welcomed back contributor Charley James after a 3-year absence due to major health difficulties. Now, as you will learn in tomorrow’s morning lead story, things were much, much worse for Charley than we ever imagined. This gifted writer is now homeless.

Those who follow on Twitter know I describe writing as ‘my oxygen.’ Speaking truth is rarely the highest paying profession, yet we keep this publication going and a roof over our heads thanks to your kindness. Every summer, we hold our breath and wonder if we will make it. In our 6th year, summer months see our consultancy struggle, as companies shut projects down until September.

Multi-millions are invested in SuperPACS and RW bloggers spewing hate-filled lies. Those on the left seek truth and scrounge to survive. While a lie make it halfway around the globe at the speed of sound, we work twice as hard to get the real story. We also move heaven and earth to help one of our own. We need your help to help Charley and this publication. Now I suck at asking for money. I’m bad at it because I feel embarrassed and hate to do it. Each day, no matter how bad things look, I feel grateful to have our family’s health, kids in great schools and living in a country where we look out for each other.

Economic reality often trumps what I feel. Charley needs help and would never ask. So we’re asking and will put aside one-half, .50 of every dollar or pound earned this month to help him get back on his feet. His coverage of the 2008 campaign gave us superb investigative breaking news about Sarah Palin. He needs our help-NOW.

For the month of June I am going to pester you here and on social media because, periodically, we are ALL asked to help and good friends rise to the call.

Economic reality stinks: my recent working trip to Washington to cover the White House, cost £1,000 ($1,600) out of my own pocket. I feel out of integrity writing about the election without being there and, just as in 2008, will travel to the US several times before 06 November to gather news.

Too, I was just asked by China Radio International’s Today programme to participate in a cultural exchange in Beijing and to the Xianjiang Autonomous Region. While they will pay travel expenses, it will be difficult to write and work on a 12-day trip that will provide unparalleled views behind the often closed curtains of this country. Many stories will be written about our mysterious trading and world partners.

We fund this magazine from our consultancy. In this economy that gets harder. In this past year bigger and better-funded ventures folded. We’re determined though to keep going because in this post Citizens United election cycle, progressive voices are sorely needed in a media world dominated by five corporations. This publication costs about £10,000 ($16,000) a year just to ‘turn the Internet on.’ We earned $162 last year from Google Adverts.

I hope you understand this is a labour of love from our side. Love needs help and your love.

Please click this link and you will be taken to a PayPal page for UK Progressive Magazine (Target Point Ltd is our business name).

For every £50 donation, I’ll post a free signed copy of the 2nd edition of my book: Egypt Unshackled (which will continue the story from the Mubarak resignation through their Presidential Election). It is scheduled for a July re-release.

A £100 donation gets you the Egypt book plus a signed copy of the paperback compilation of my four 2012 US Election e-books: Lipstick on THIS Pig?; The Vagina Wars: GOP’s War on Women; the soon to be released The Vagina Wars on Steroids: GOP’s Messaging War on the 99% and the July 1st release of: Magic Underwear in the Situation Room: Will the Christian Right Support Mormon Mitt? to be released in time for the national conventions in Tampa and Charlotte.

Please give what you can.

Thank you.
