Many asked me: “Who did you vote for?” Here’s my response:
FOR: 47 million Americans who will die or become horribly sick if the Health Care Bill is repealed. More personally that’s Henry, a 50 year-old machine shop owner and Paul a young entrepreneur. They both contracted a serious illness last year. Paul was then denied coverage and Henry’s Health Insurance Company raised his rates 4 times to twice his income. Henry has asked his friends to: “Please vote to keep the Health Care Plan; it will save my family and my home!” I DID!
FOR: Sylvia, a 42 year-old nurse who lost her job in a cutback and her Insurance went with it. She and her two children can’t do the COBRA thing and still afford to eat. So she is uninsured and has discovered she is sick, but is afraid to see a Doctor until the Health Care Law becomes fully effective. She has asked her church friends: “Please help me when you vote!” I DID!
FOR: women who are studying and working hard to create a life of their own BEFORE taking on the responsibility of a child. Their only hope of having any meaningful relationship, normal – natural – and healthy, is the availability contraception. They asked us to help them! I DID!
FOR: The many small and midsize business people I know, who realize their only hope of succeeding and living a decent life is a fair regulated business market. They realize without rules of the road there are unscrupulous thugs who will gut their market place. They WANT us to vote for responsible business regulation. I DID!
FOR: Responsible citizens who love to see growth in the economy BUT who realize “only good solid – moderate growth is real and lasting.” They know of the 1856, 1897, 1929, and remember 2008 when we all had to pay for fast growth by losing our savings, jobs and homes. It is now clear that “get rich” schemes rob the populist and are shell games that glut billionaires while bankrupting everyone else. These people, like you, pleaded with me to keep us on tract for good solid growth for everybody: rich – middleclass and poor. I DID!
FOR: People who are aware of the simple fact that: “We live on ONE planet ONLY. We can’t go anywhere else and if we could, life there would be artificial and awful. This earth is our HOME and it’s a beautiful gift to us from God. If we eat it alive, we eat us alive with it. Those concerned begged me to vote for a President who supports our earth home! I DID!
FOR: Those of you who are 14 years my junior. At 69 years, I am able to live the most productive, most freeing, most enjoyable time of my life. I am free to write, travel, study and pray for our world, without worry. Much of that is thanks to Social Security and Medicare. YES, it’s true; they need tweaking and a different response to end of life issues. YES we need to restructure remuneration methods for providers. YES the system needs modification, like my trouser size over the past 20 years, BUT that doesn’t mean a GUT JOB on our next generations. The younger ones have asked me to vote to save their chance for retirement like I’ve had. I DID!
At the same time I REJECTED a clan of people who have tried to win the election by outright lying, cheating people out of their vote, pushing a racist agenda designed to pinch the hearts of my white friends and family members, who still harbor fear of others, they didn’t know they still had!
FOR: I was proud to muster the opportunity to go into that voting booth and vote for a rather boring, hard working, knowledgeable, but responsibly acting man, who is doing the best that can be done to make an even greater America for everyone. A man of valor who doesn’t lust to war.
AGAINST: I was very pleased, I had the chance to enter that voting booth and repudiate a charismatic, mega billionaire, high school bully, who changes his promises and plans every third day, who willingly baited the worst attitudes in all of us toward each other and is perfectly willing to send another generation of our young to their death, in another looser war, just to be elected “the worst president in history!”
That’s how I voted; hopefully, as always – For God’s Sake!
