Good Feeling’s Gone

Posted on 07 August 2008 by Denis Campbell

This line was uttered by Marlin the Daddy clownfish searching for his son in the film ‘Finding Nemo’ when he comes to the realisation that the light in the depths of the ocean he has been dreamily following is the lure of an Anglerfish. Barack Obama must feel the same way when a YouTube video of Hillary Clinton, before a group of rabid fans, said her name should be placed in nomination and her delegates heard because that would be cathartic for the entire party and good for Obama. What the !?!?!?

Once again it’s all about Hillary and f***-all for everyone else.

This is also why the Democratic Party has won only three Presidential elections in the last 40-years. The conservative half of the Republican Party hates the idea of John McCain as their nominee but… everyone is toeing the party line, the money is flowing in to the RNC and the 527 groups and attack ad machine is throwing ads out like chum for the hungry masses and media sharks.

The Democrats biggest problem is they are too Democratic. They’ve had the ability to force the government into shutdown but always live in an eternal state of fear of upsetting someone somewhere in their base which is 10,000 miles wide and 10 inches deep so EVERYONE has a voice and must be heard! It’s like any local civic meeting in the UK an agenda should be disposed of in 30-minutes but drags on for two-three hours because no one dares upset anyone, take the mantel of leadership or… takes a decision.

This was why I hated Democrats Abroad meetings. By the time we heard from EVERYONE and tabled every action until we could study it further, we walked out of the meeting wondering why we bothered coming in the first place!

The Republicans on the other hand don’t give a sh** what you or I think. Pay your money, get back in the line and do this! They know how to win elections. Even in a year when war fatigue, economic fatigue, Bush fatigue and general doom and gloom should portend a Democratic landslide, the Party is once again kow-towing to the Clinton’s and their narcissistic ways. As NBC’s Political Director Chuck Todd said today, when the Democratic Party is divided, they lose elections.

The Democrats are the flower children, the Republicans the machines. While the Dems put flowers in the tank gun barrel in Tiananmen Square, the Republicans run them over with a bloody tank!

Never bring a knife to a gunfight. Screw that, we’re too busy explaining how our feeling were hurt in a group therapy session to even understand that it’s not about any one person, it’s about winning the damned election!

Someone needs to ‘bitch slap’ Hillary and Bill back to reality. Tell them to get over themselves and on board. Al Gore and Howard Dean had a conversation in 2000. Dean opened the convention rules committee meeting (remember the one where Hillary was going to use the nuclear option to force the vote her way?) by telling the story of the conversation he and Al had back then.

Dean was furious at the time with the Party and felt he had been done in and back-stabbed. He fumed for nearly an hour on the phone while Al Gore listened and only answered when Dean asked, why should I support after the party after what they did to me?

Said Al, “because what’s at stake here is bigger than any one of us Howard.”

He then talked about Supreme Court justices and policy issue setbacks that indeed came into fruition and amplified the polarisation in the nation.

This is the message the Clinton’s need to get or get the hell out of Dodge! (Denver). This stunt of preparing for 2012 will backfire because the party will never forgive her if she and Bill do not get fully on board NOW!

If she does not deliver her 18-million votes, come 2012, if she thinks she will get those votes then, she is mistaken. If she thinks she and Bill have problems in the black community now… you ain’t seen nuttin’ yet. Nobody told you to go $20 million in debt Senator, you did that yourself. You attacked Obama with ads so vile they are now in the Republican arsenal and you now want everyone to pay for them? Talk about living in cloud-cuckoo land.

Here’s the real problem. 4-more years of Bush-McCain and we may not even make it to the next election. I can’t wait to see what Keith Olbermann of Countdown has to say on this one. I can already feel a special comment burning through his fingertips…

About The UKProgressive

UK Progressive began during the 2008 US Presidential Campaign. It replaced two blogs: "Outside the Boundaries" (dedicated to US/UK Politics and Business) and "Fire the Guru!" an expose of charlatans in the Mind Body Spirit business. It was briefly known as The Vadimus Post from the Latin 'Quo Vadimus' or 'Where Are We Headed?'

We publish from a 19th century hilltop farmhouse in Monknash on the South Wales Glamorgan Heritage Coast. US-journalist Denis Campbell, based in The Netherlands and UK for 12-years is the publisher/editor. You can follow his live news feed on Facebook.com (Denis Campbell) and Twitter @UKProgressive.

UK Progressive is a free service. I cringe every time I hear a pbs, truthout or npr never-ending appeal for money. They make much more than we do. We're not your mother, we'll skip the guilt trip. If you like what you see here and would like to help us bring it to you by making a donation to support future developments, we'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
