It seems that about-to-be former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is in serious legal trouble, which may explain her bizarre, rambling resignation yesterday.
Brad’s Blog is quoting multiple sources saying that the US Dept. of Justice is about to indict her on embezzlement, charges dating back to her days as Wasilla mayor. Apparently, when she had the municipal sports complex built, the contractor - who also contributed serious money to her mayoral and gubernatorial races - allegedly looted the construction site to slip windows, wood and workers to the Palin’s for their new house on the lake, all gratis.
As I reported on Friday afternoon, when Palin announced her inexpicable resignation, senior people from the McCain presidential campaign who worked with her were totally flummoxed by the sudden resignation. One said to me right after the news broke, “She was a disaster campaigning for vice president and she isn’t any less of a nightmare back home in Alaska.”
My own additional reporting late Friday afternoon and Saturday morning backs up the Brad Blog assertion based on his fine, early reporting. Suspiciously, DoJ sources declined to confirm or deny the report to me, a statement usually made when there is an ongoing investigation. If there were no basis to the rumour, the DoJ quickly denies any such possible indictment to clear a person’s name and reputation.
As Paul Krugman writes this morning at his blog, those “whom the gods would destroy, they first make Republican governors.”

The Lunacy of Republican opposition in the Healthcare Debate writ large!

Not surprised.
So pathetic. You reported that “Sambo” story which was shot down by even her detractors. Somehow, I doubt that you’re breaking anything but fiction.
Ms. Gomez …
Thanks for reading the article and taking time to leave a comment.
In fact, the Sambo story was not “shot down” by Palin’s detractors or anyone else; in fact, it was nominated for an on-line journalism award. I stand by my reporting and did so in a number of MSM interviews after it first appeared. Moreover, not even right wing loudmouths like Michelle Malkin could refute any of the facts in the article, retreating instead to smears and personal attacks.
The Palin resignation continues to be a breaking story which I plan to continue covering.
