How ecologically intelligent are you at consuming?
By Dorret Groot Wassink
Daniel Goleman’s new book Ecological Intelligence showed me how little I really knew about living ‘ecologically intelligent’. Some of the facts:
Are you aware that:
• most normal plastic bottles contain materials that cause cancer or that loads of normal everyday cosmetics, from shampoos to advanced slimming lotions [...]

by Rob Goffee and Gareth Jones
In this book Goffee and Jones succesfully give an insight into organisation’s different cultures by using a simple model. According to Goffee and Jones the key factors that dominate organisational cultures are sociability and solidarity.
They come down to 4 basic coporate cultures:

The accuracy with which these reflect the reality of true [...]

Confronting the Brutal Facts

by Dorret Groot Wassink
In the headlines: 25% of our mammal species are in danger of becoming extinct. Their main threat is habitat destruction. Facing the facts of our world, our earth’s very survival, is not easy. Yet only by facing brutal facts can we work on solutions. It’s the same as in the medical profession. [...]

‘Like to Make Money More than Saving our Environment?’

by Dorret Groot Wassink

This week Time magazine marvels at our heroes of the environment: People who made a difference, who are changing our world. Leaders, visionairies, moguls, entrepreneurs, activist, scientists and innovators. One of them, Yo Guy, protector of Vietnam’s flora and fauna from the ravages of war, now fears the toll of torrid economic [...]

The Legacy We Leave…

What legacy will we leave for the next generation?
In 40-years our oil supply runs dry and we have about 70-years of natural gas remaining if we consume it at the current rate. Our earth’s oxygen supply is in danger as rainforests disappear. At the current [...]

Asking Why ?

Posted on 29 July 2008 by Dorret Groot Wassink | Comments (0)

by Dorret Groot Wassink
The favourite question of a four year old is why?
Why is the earth round? Why is the sky blue? Why does the sun shine? Why does it rain? Why? Why? Why?
And no matter how clear the answer seems, real ‘why’ questions cannot be answered. Our mind can’t deal with questions that are [...]

by Daniel Gilbert
You may think you know what makes you happy and… you are probably wrong!  This book is a great read especially if you ever worked hard to satisfy your future self, only to find out that it didn’t bring the future you the happiness intended. Apparantly the mistakes we make when we try [...]

Instinct, the Driving Force Behind Behaviour

Director, Target Point Ltd
Sitting on the terrace watching people go by can be very entertaining. Ever wonder why people do the things they do?
-The pretty lady in the high heels with exposing a nice décolleté and having her buttocks just covered by the short skirt she wears.
-The teenage girl covered in piercings, the [...]

About The UKProgressive

UK Progressive E-Magazine began during the 2008 US Presidential Campaign and was created to consolidate and replace two blogs created in 2006 called “Outside the Boundaries,” a political blog and “Fire the Guru!” an expose blog of charlatans in the Mind Body Spirit business. It was briefly called The Vadimus Post. That name came from the Latin 'Quo Vadimus' or 'Where Are We Headed?'

When looking for pithy Latin URL names, I’d watched a moving episode of the same name (different tense, Quo Vadis) from Sports Night, an early series created by The West Wing’s Aaron Sorkin. It was the last episode and focused on the sale of the network to an unknown billionaire who asked the question every day of those who worked closest to him. He wanted to know the answer and… Do We Know Why? His rationale: we spend so much time on things urgent, we miss the important and do we ask ourselves (and others) why we are heading in a particular direction?

Well that is what we ask in these Op-Ed pieces, articles, live feeds, video segments and contributions from friends and affiliates. We are blessed to be able to dialogue with you and our aim is to provide independent, critical insight into the issues of the day. UK Progressive is published daily in Monknash, South Wales. Its founder, An American in Wales, is US journalist Denis Campbell who has been based in The Netherlands and the UK the last 11-years.

The opinions expressed are those of each contributor and do not represent the opinion of Denis Campbell (unless expressly authored by him), our advertisers, any related companies and/or their affiliates. UK Progressive is a free, continuously improving news distribution service (because none of us could live with ourselves or face our mothers if every edition did not represent our very best effort). A lot of work goes daily into producing this true labour of love.

While most of us have other day jobs to eat, we’d love to get to the point where we can monetize this so it covers all of our expenses, allows us to pay our contributors for their fine work and helps us to continue to expand and grow. While not like PBS or other media groups shilling for logo umbrellas every ten minutes, we find it embarrassing to even have to ask… and we could use your help.

If you like what you see here and would like to help us bring it to you by making a donation to support future developments, well, we’d really appreciate it. Our PayPal account is named after a lovely canal side café in Lochem, The Netherlands which our office overlooked years ago.

We promise a team cheer and ‘happy dance’ in your name in advance. Thanks.
